HMD Global has temporarily shut down the manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to company sources, they have implemented all COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing and compulsory usage of masks. Moreover, they have made changes to canteen facilities. Nokia has kick-started the operations of the manufacturing plant in a restricted manner after India relaxed the lockdown restrictions.

The main purpose is to boost the economic activity that has been facing downslide by the countrywide lockdown. Nokia added that they hope to resume operations soon at a low level with skeletal staff strength.

It is to be noted that OPPO had to suspend operations at its facility near New Delhi soon as the company restarts its operations. The reason is that nine workers have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19.
